Arthur Dinu

Biography

Arthur Dinu was born in Buzău, Romania, in 1986. He began his artistic training at the “Margareta Sterian” Art High School under the guidance of professor Tiberiu Stănescu, later specialising in monumental painting under professor Florin Menzopol.

He graduated from the Faculty of Decorative Arts and Design in Bucharest in 2008 and completed his master's degree at the same faculty in 2010, specialising in jewellery design under Professor Bogdan Hojbotă, PhD.

After finishing his studies, drawn by a passion for fashion design, he pursued a career in the fashion industry. He started out as a stylist and, in 2013, founded his own label, Marie Ollie. On 12 March 2014 he launched his first clothing collection in an unusual way — through a vernissage of fashion illustrations. The event marked the official debut of Arthur Dinu's artistic vision, combining drawing with elegant fashion design.

After eight rewarding years in fashion, the changing social context led him to redirect his career. He returned to oil painting, producing small and medium-format works for private collectors.

In 2021 he began collaborating with architects Roger Pop and Alex Adam, founders of AAStudio, creating 180 abstract works of 90 × 90 cm for the interiors of Qosmo Hotel in Brașov. The collaboration continued with paintings for fine-dining restaurants such as Casa di David and Bone, and for numerous private spaces designed by AAStudio.

To date he has completed more than 100 works across a range of series and themes, held in private collections.

Philosophy

“Light is only ever understood through the shadow that carries it.”

A devotee of chiaroscuro as much as of surrealism, Arthur Dinu moves freely between styles rather than settling into one. Each series sets its own rules: some works are built from deep contrasts of light and dark, others open into dreamlike, invented spaces. The subjects are equally varied — social or fantastical — and always approached through paint itself.

Inspiration

The old masters' handling of light. Surrealist imagery and the logic of dreams. Architecture and interiors, and the way a painting changes a room. Fashion, drawing and the discipline of the studio.
